Does my pet qualify for travel in the passenger cabin?
Below are some criteria necessary for travel in the passenger cabin. Additional regulations based on destination may apply:
- Your pet can comfortably remain in its kennel, under the seat for the entire flight.
- Only domesticated dogs and cats are allowed.
- The kennel is specifically made for animal carriage and does not exceed 16in x 10in x 9in/40cm x 25cm x 23cm (length x width x height) in its dimensions or weigh more than 18 lb/8 kg (including animal).
- Your pet has all necessary health documents (see below for more information).
Does my pet qualify for travel as checked baggage?
Below are some criteris necessary for pets to travel checked as baggage. Additional regulations based on destination may apply:
- Your pet can comfortably remain in its kennel for the entire flight.
- The kennel meets all requirements set forth by SAS Airlines.

What are the kennel requirements?
Below are some of SAS Airlines' kennel requirements:
- Be leak-proof and escape-proof.
- Be properly ventilated, but not allow any part of the animal from protruding outside of the container.
- Provide enough room for the animal to stand and turn around.
- Be made of metal, wood, or a hard plastic/composite.
- Contain absorbent material or litter.
What health documentation is required?
Many Countries require health documents. As it is the passenger's responsibility to be aware of all regulations, you should consult your veterinarian, SAS and the local Embassy to ensure that your animal will comply with all requirements.
Are there any other restrictions?
SAS Airlines can refuse to transport an animal due to illness, aggressive behavior, poor kenneling, or extreme temperatures at origin, transfer, or destination airports.
