Airline Overview
SilkAir is the "regional wing of Singapore Airlines." In 1976, SilkAir was founded as Tradewinds Pte Ltd handling charters for Singapore Airlines and serving exotic destinations in the Singapore region. Tradewinds emerged into a scheduled airline catering to holidaying passengers in February 1989. In April 1992 Tradewinds evolved into a full-fledged regional airline and was renamed SilkAir. SilkAir is based at Singapore's Changi Airport. Over 50 destinations are served in countries including Australia, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Service is provided with modern Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft. The airline has selected the Boeing 737-800 as it's future primary aircraft and several have entered service in its current fleet. SilkAir is a partner airline of Singapore Air and Scoot. It is a member of the KrisFlyer frequent flier program.
