Overview

Etihad Airways operates the Boeing B787-9 on long-haul flights.

This aircraft features 3 classes of service and it operates with 8 First Class suites, 28 flat bed Business seats and 195 standard Economy Class seats.

Etihad's First Class Suites on this aircraft offer flyers a private sanctuary with new features that include a chilled mini-bar and 5-star cuisine prepared by world-class chefs.

Business Class seats offer a privacy shell, 6 ft 1 inch full flat bed and direct aisle access from every seat. Each seat has 15-inch LCD screen, with noise-canceling headsets, in-seat power sockets, audio/ethernet connectivity, in-built massage, luxury comforters and pillows.

Economy Class offers a 31" inch seat pitch. The cabin is fitted with cradle-style seats that slide foward as well as recline and mood lighting that is adjusted to suit the time of day. Economy Class passengers can enjoy a variety of entertainment programs on a 10.4-inch LCD screen available at every seat.

Well the complainers need to get up front ;-) Dec 1, 2019, AUH-IAD. I've flown this plane on this route 3 times, but this was the 1st facing rear. Not a problem and a beautiful view of the wing and engine from all 3 windows. Galley noise not noticed nor lavatory concerns. Etihad has a wide passageway between both forward bathrooms between the cabin forward wall and the galleys - tres chic and spacial luxury. spacious, nice bed and doors that close.

the worst long haul flight ever no leg room very narrow seat. Seat so hard have been more comfortable on a park bench. More comfort on a budget domestic flight in Australia.Obviously not interested in customers, dollars only

This is a very poor configuration for a long-haul flight and I wouldn't recommend using Etihad for these journeys. Three abreast is awful and the cabin is too busy. Compound this with the fact they only issue seats at check-in means you have difficulty getting a decent seat. I'd always now fly Emirates.

I caught this B787 from Perth to Abu Dhabi and then caught their A330 from Abu Dhabi to Milan. The 2-4-2 seating on the A330 was much roomier than the 3-3-3 seating on the B787 (width and pitch). I recommend that people avoid this B787 for long flights at night such as mine. The stats on this website for seat width and pitch for both planes don't reflect what I felt. The difference feels more than it looks on paper. An alternative out of Perth would be A380 and B777 flights, I flew the former (Etihad) and its almost as roomy as the A330, I suspect the B777 would be even roomier.

Leg room was ridiculously lacking, seat width is barely accommodating and service varied from good to non-existent. This plane configuration should NEVER been in service for a 14 hour flight.

Biz Class seat 11A is a nice seat, fairly private, but right in front of economy where the baby baskets are placed. Make use of the noise cancelling headsets and its OK, but when many babies are aboard it can get noisy. I suggest a seat further to the front if you can get it.

Poor, poor product on the 787. Flew the first part of my journey on the a380 with etihad and was far superior to the 787. Seat was too narrow, leg room was non existant and could not recline my seat due to passeger behind being of normal human size. Claims that the 787 are quieter than other aircraft seem to be false. This aircraft should not be used for anything over 3 hours. The only saving grace was it was quipck disembarkation compared to the a380

Amazing First Class seat. Lots of privacy with the closing door and the service was second to none. Extremely comfortable and I managed to sleep most of the 14 hour flight as the flatbed and mattress/duvet were incredibly comfortable.

We were in 20A+20B on last Monday's flight EY73. This was the most uncomfortable experience we've had flying with Etihad, and surely not one we will want to repeat. Our height is not extraordinary (180/188 cm). We could count the hairs on the head of the person in front of us when they reclined their seat, they were basically in our lap. Enjoying anything on the screens is difficult when they are pushed so near to your face.

A very comfortable seat for the flight. Proximity to the galley is not bothersome in the slightest, as the crew have the heavy drapes closed at all times which are quite effective at blocking any additional noise. Given the late night departure from BNE (around 10.30pm) a fully lie-flat bed was a blessing. I have noticed that some comments have been left stating that the seats were 'rock-hard'. After coming to grips with the interactive seat controls, I was able to adjust the firmness of the cushion to suit my comfort level. Two small issues: The periodic operation of the air-pump to maintain the level of the cushions was an annoyance at first, but I got used to it. Also, try as it might the Dreamliner is nowhere near as quiet as their A380.

the aircraft map isn't entirely accurate for the 787s. I was seated in 15k from IAD - AUH and the bulkhead seat has much more room than the rows behind me. granted we couldn't stow anything in front of us, but we had an extra foot of legroom sitting in the bulkhead seat. The seats were also narrower because the tray-table and entertainment screen is stored in the armrest. The poor saps sitting in the rest of economy had to deal with some really cramped international economy seating ]

Row 5 and others are reversed seats/beds. The side seat in row 5 is as expected further away from the one window BUT the window is almost completely blocked by next row 6 window seat. I don't know whether this applies to other reversed side seats.

There is only a partial section of a window. The passenger in seat 6A gets to control the two windows in this section of the aircraft.

My family and I flew economy on the 787 from Perth to Abu Dhabi return and found it extremely uncomfortable. I'm 6' tall and my son is 6'1" - we couldn't get more than a few minutes sleep at a time, and it was 11 hours each way. We will not be flying on this route/aircraft again!

Totally unsuitable configuration for a 14 hour flight. Even worse if you have an infant who will not sit still as you are pretty much confined to the seat. Having only 4 toilets in the entire economy section is a poor decision by both airline and manufacturer. This is compounded by the business class passengers who seem to feel free to use these facilities also.

Not only was this the most uncomfortable and rock hard business seat I have ever flown on, it was cramped. Staff were excellent but of course had nothing better to offer. My wife, with a bad back could not sleep for more than a few minutes dozing at a time. Cannot fly this 787 again

This was the hardest Business Class seat i have ever sat in. Watch out for bedsores on the 14 hour flight, plus 2 hours waiting at the gate.

this aircraft/configuration is totally unsuitable for a long haul (14.5 hour) flight in economy. Seat too small, inadequate legroom and very cramped and uncomfortable Terrible flight - I will not fly Etihad again on this route!

Cramped seating for anybody 5'7" or taller. Poor service - trying to use a LCC business model without the LCC discounts. Shop around and pay the extra to fly a better quality airline. This airline is great for backpackers wanting to save a bit of money, otherwise avoid.

The Economy seating is extremely cramped and uncomfortable! Compared to the A330 which has a much better arrangement with the 2 4 2 layout and far more comfortable seats. Great shame as the Aircraft itself is at the cutting edge of Aircraft design. just let down by cramming to many passengers into the Economy section.

Just travelled from Heathrow to Abu Dhabi (first stage) on the Airbus 380.....a pleasure. Next 14 hours on this plane, window seat 30K, i could not believe they use this plane for the longest part of the journey from Heathrow to Brisbane, there is no room, very uncomfortable seats, i felt very hemed in, no room at all, very very disappointed. The aircraft crew were lovely, really friendly and helpful, food was the usual, the cabin was not cold at all, toilets always clean, not an awful lot of room if you wanted to go for a little stroll to stretch your legs, either. Not sure i would use this plane and airline for this route again though, why they dont use the Airbus 380 for the whole journey ive no idea...

Flew Brisbane to Aubi Dhabi and found these seats small and the most uncomfortable to sit in compared to the A380 for the London leg.Paid for extra leg room and that saved the day. I am a six footer and wife smaller but we both still have sore rears after two days.Do not know if seat design at exit row is to blame but will never fly in one of these planes again.Eithad over booked return leg and were stuck on tarmac for 1.5 hours as they re gigged seating for people. Disappointing service from supposedly award winning airline

Flew from Brisbane to Abu Dhabi on 5 August 2015. The worst long haul flight I have ever taken. Little leg room, little shoulder room and a full flight. The economy class configuration on this aircraft is completely unsuitable for a 14 and a half hour flight. I will never fly Etihad again. To add further mysery, the crew was virtually invisible. No water offered. You had to go looking for it. Plus I reported my non functining entertainment system early in the flight. No action was taken. I was approached 45 minutes before landing and asked if it was still not working. My first and last flight with this airline.

The seat pitch, even though it is only 31", is quite comfortable. This aircraft has one of the biggest screens I have seen for individual seats, and the best user interface for the entertainment system.
