What is Unaccompanied Minor Service?
Young children traveling without a parent or legal guardian are considered to be Unaccompanied Minors. Most airlines provide a service to assist these children from their point of departure to their final destination.
What age does my child have to be to qualify as an Unaccompanied Minor?
The unaccompanied children service is for children who are above the age of five (including) and under the age of 12 who will travel without the attendance of parents or an adult above 18 years old. Children above the age of 5 may travel independently with prior approval. The professional service staff will look after the unaccompanied children at the arrival and departure of flight.
Children under 5 years of age are not allowed to travel unless accompanied by an adult who is at least 16 years old.
What are the fees associated with this service?
Children who are above the age of 5 (including) and under the age of 12 and who take a domestic flight (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan) will be charged according to child price. Children who take an international or regional flight will be charged according to the adult price. A service fee equivalent to 50% of economy class ticket for an adult will be charged additionally if the child is required to be accompanied on the plane.
What is the baggage allowance for an Unaccompanied Minor?
The underage passenger buying a child ticket enjoys the same baggage allowance as that of an adult.
Are there any flight restrictions?
- Connections to flights operated by other airlines are not allowed.
- Connections cannot exceed 6 hours.
- Unless there is only one flight per day, an Unaccompanied Minor cannot be booked on the last flight of the day.
