Airline Overview
Azores Airlines (S4) is a Portuguese airline serving the Azorean Islands that is also affectionately known as SATA. Air service includes flights amongst the islands, to Portugal, to Europe, and to North America. Headquarters are on Ponta Delgada on the island of São Miguel and its main base is at João Paulo II Airport (PDL). Focus cities for service include Boston (BOS), Lisbon (LIS), Porto (OPO), and Toronto (YYZ). Aircraft in the fleet include the Airbus A320-200, A321-200, A330-200, Bombardier Q200, and Q400. The airline's roots date back to 1990 when it started as OceanAir. Group SATA acquired the airline in the 1990's and it was rebranded as SATA Internacional. Azores Airlines replaced the name SATA Internacional in 2015 on primary route, however, the SATA name was kept and added with Air Açores [SATA Air Açores] for its regional service between the islands.
