Carry-On Allowance: 1 Bag + 1 Personal Item
Each passenger is allowed to carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Assistive devices and outer garments do not count as personal items. All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you and adhere to the following requirements:
- Maximum Dimensions of Carry-on Luggage: 46.5 linear in/118 cm (length + width + height)
- Maximum Weight of Carry-on Luggage: 15 lb/7 kg
Except on flights to/from the U.S., Star Alliance Gold Members (including Airpoints Gold and Gold Elite) are allowed 2 carry-on bags as long as they adhere to the above requirements.
REMINDER: Bulkhead seats do not have underseat storage during take-off and landing.

Checked Baggage Allowance
Passengers traveling within New Zealand must adhere to the below weight requirements:
- Smart Saver: One checked luggage - 50 lb/23 kg
- Flexi Plus*: Two pieces of checked luggage - 50 lb/23 kg each
- Star Alliance Gold Members (including Airpoints Gold and Gold Elite) Members are allowed three pieces of checked luggage, each weighing a maximum of 50 lb/23 kg.

Passengers traveling to Australia, the Pacific Islands or Bali must adhere to the below weight requirements:
- Economy Class: One checked luggage - 50 lb/23 kg
- Premium Economy Class: Two pieces of checked luggage - 50 lb/23 kg each
- Business Class: Three pieces of checked luggage - 50 lb/23 kg each
- Star Alliance Gold Members (including Airpoints Gold and Gold Elite) Members in Economy Class are allowed two pieces of checked luggage and those in Premium Economy or Business are allowed three pieces of checked luggage, each weighing a maximum of 50 lb/23 kg.
Passengers traveling internationally, with our without a connection in the U.S., must adhere to the below requirements:
- Economy Class: One piece of checked luggage - 50 lb/23kg combined
- Premium Economy Class: Two pieces of checked luggage - 50 lb/23 kg each
- Business Class: Three pieces of checked luggage - 50 lb/23 kg each
- Star Alliance Gold Members (including Airpoints Gold and Gold Elite) are allowed two pieces in Economy Class and three pieces in Premium Economy and Business Classes meeting the same requirements.
Passengers traveling internationally to the U.S., must adhere to the first carrier on their ticketed journey's requirements when traveling with multiple carriers.
*Air New Zealand's Pacific Premium Economy baggage allowance is not recognized by other carriers. Through check-in or baggage interlining on another carrier, the customer is only permitted the economy class baggage allowance through to their final destination. Air New Zealand Gold, Gold Elites, and Star Gold customers are eligible for the Star Alliance Priority baggage tag. Air New Zealand's Koru and Pacific Premium Economy New Zealand customers are required to have the Koru Priority tag on their baggage.
Excess, Overweight, Oversize Baggage Fees
If you have more bags than the permitted allowance or your bags exceed the weight or linear restrictions, you will be charged additional fees. Sports Equipment
Some checked items, such as surfboards and bicycles will be charged a fixed handling fee because of size, fragility, or other handling requirements. Contact Air New Zealand directly, or visit their Oversized Items & Sporting Equipment Information Page for information.
CPAP Device:
If you wish to use your CPAP device during the flight it must meet the following requirements:
It must be an Air New Zealand approved model or meet FAA approval and have a manufacturer's label that indicates it meets those requirements
The device must be able to be stowed in the cabin in a way that meets safety and security regulations. Maximum combined dimensions are: maximum weight of 7kg (15lbs) and maximum total dimensions (length + width + height) of 115cm (45")
You must provide us with a minimum of 48 hours notice if you wish to use your device on-board and check in 1 hour prior to general check in. Air New Zealand MEDA form Part 1 must be completed for anyone wishing to use a CPAP on-board, if your device is not listed Part 1 must still be completed.
